The Petition For Portable AI Memory
Your data belongs to you, you should be able to use it
The Future is Portable.
A Community Request for the Next Evolution of AI.
The "Blank Slate" Problem
We are living through the most exciting technological shift in history. The AI models available today are nothing short of miraculous. They reason, they create, and they help us solve problems that used to be impossible.
But as "power users" of this technology, we have hit a wall.
We spend months building context with an AI. We teach it our coding patterns, our creative voice, and our project history. It stops being a chatbot and starts being a partner.
And then, we have to move.
Maybe a new model comes out that is faster. Maybe we need a different tool for a specific task. And the moment we switch windows, that partnership is reset to zero.
We are left staring at a blank cursor, forced to explain ourselves all over again.
It feels like digital amnesia. And in an era where AI is becoming an extension of our minds, that amnesia is a heavy cost to pay.
An Invitation to Innovate
We don't believe this is malicious. We believe it is simply early.
The industry has been sprinting so fast to make the models smarter that they haven't yet focused on making the memories durable.
We think it is time to change that.
We believe the next great breakthrough in AI won't be a higher parameter count or a larger context window. It will be Continuity.
Imagine a world where your "Context Layer"—the history of who you are and how you work—belongs to you, not the app. Imagine taking that layer and plugging it into any model you choose, instantly giving it the wisdom of your past conversations.
That is the future we want to help build.
The "Open Memory" Proposal
We are gathering signatures to send a clear, positive signal to the product teams at the world's leading AI labs.
We are asking them to collaborate on a standard for Native Memory Portability. Or at the minimum add an easy way to re-upload memory exports.
We are asking for:
Usable Exports: Moving beyond raw JSON dumps to a format that is actually readable and restorable.
Cross-Platform Harmony: The ability to bring our "System Instructions" and "Long-term Memory" with us when we switch providers.
User Sovereignty: The recognition that our conversation history is our intellectual property, and it should travel with us.
We know these teams listen to user needs. They gave us code interpreters, canvas interfaces, and project folders because we asked.
Now, let’s ask for the Bridge…
Join the Call
If you are tired of explaining yourself to every new AI you meet, add your name.
We will deliver this list to the industry leaders to show them that Portability is the most requested feature of the next generation.
Help us show big AI how needed true memory freedom and portability is.
It’s our data, and we should be able to use it!
The Bridge We Built
We are optimists, but we are also builders. We knew that waiting for industry standards could take years.
So, we built a solution for the meantime.
Memory Forge is a "Bridge Tool." It allows you to transport your conversation history between different platforms today. It isn't a replacement for a native standard—it's a prototype of what we hope the future looks like.
If you need to move your memories right now, we’ve got you covered.
